SPIRIT OF GIVING— Returning for the 16th year is the Giving Tree, which will go up Wednesday in Eastern Hills Mall. Sponsored by the Joan A. Male Family Support Center in Buffalo, which serves families affected by abuse or neglect, the tree holds approximately 600 ornamental tags. Each one has the first name of a child the agency serves, along with his or her age, size and gift wish.

Shoppers choose a tag, buy a gift and return it to a volunteer at the table next to the tree. Through the Giving Tree and the agency’s Adopt-a-Family program, hundreds of local kids got gifts last Christmas. The agency needs volunteers to help at the Giving Tree from Wednesday through Dec. 14. Volunteers work three-hour shifts, either by themselves or with friends, and simply register the gifts in a log book. For information or to help, call Holly Hahn-Baker at 822-0919.
