The Montana Repertory Theatre presents “To Kill a Mockingbird” Saturday evening in the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts.

Return flight

Story tools:

When the lights went down on Studio Arena Theatre’s production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” in February 2008, they went down for good. Since then, Buffalo’s boisterous theater scene has been chugging away sans a regional playhouse. Some say good riddance, but others miss the opportunity to see actors, directors and designers from outside Western New York performing in nonmusical productions.

Those thirsting for an infusion of drama from elsewhere in the United States can check out the touring production of—coincidence of coincidences—“To Kill a Mockingbird” by the Montana Repertory Theatre at 8 p. m. Saturday at the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts. The production, a favorite of audiences and regional theater companies, uses Christopher Sergel’s oft-performed adaptation of Harper Lee’s 1960 book about racial injustice in the Depression-era South. The theater company is in residence at the University of Montana.

The show, directed by Montana Rep’s Artistic Director Greg Johnson, stars Marie Fahlgren as Scout, Mikel MacDonald as Atticus Finch and Jennifer Fleming-Lovely as Jem Finch.
