It’s too bad state nixed new license plate plan

Story tools:

While others exult, I’m dismayed that New York drivers won’t be issued long-overdue replacement license plates. It’s been more than a decade since the state issued new license plates. Mine are a mess, as are the plates on many of the cars I see. I was eagerly looking forward to new ones next spring.

One of New York’s many small failures has been its failure to reissue license plates frequently enough to keep the state’s autos looking fresh.

Would $25 have been too great a price? In particular, would $25 be too great a price keeping in mind that replacing a beat-up set of blue-and-white plates with replacement blue-and-white plates already costs $18? Why the outrage?
