SALAMANCA — City elementary school Principal Charles T. “Chuck” Crist, of Ellicottville, has been placed on administrative leave while attorneys for the Salamanca School District investigate allegations against him.

School Superintendent J. Douglas Hay said he escorted Crist from Seneca Elementary School last Thursday morning, placing him on leave with full pay.

“The reason is a personnel matter, and I can’t comment,” Hay said. “Our attorneys are looking into matters and will investigate.”

Hay said there is no time frame for the investigation.

Tuesday, the School Board appointed Jean Pascarella interim principal at Seneca School with a per diem salary of $300. She retired earlier this year as principal at Prospect Elementary School.

Hay said Karl Kristoff and an associate from their Buffalo law firm of Hodgson Russ are conducting the investigation.

Crist played pro football as a safety in the National Football League. He played for the New York Giants from 1972 to 1974, New Orleans Saints from 1975 to 1977 and the San Francisco 49ers in 1978. He played college basketball at Penn State University.

Before taking his current assignment in the Seneca School eight years ago, Crist was city high school principal.

Contacted Wednesday evening by telephone, Crist would say only, “I just can’t comment at this time.”
