What: “Hook” Why: This Steven Spielberg-directed continuation of the Peter Pan story stars Robin Williams as Peter Pan, Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook and Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell. Watch for Phil Collins as Inspector Good. What else: Part of the Perry’s Ice Cream Free Family Film series at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, it’s free. Tour the world
What: International Education Week programs at UB Why: Lectures, discussions, films and performances about Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil, China, Indonesia, India, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Argentina, Turkey and Cuba. What else: Exhibits of photos and origami, dance performances and an in-depth discussion of Thai cooking are planned. What: Inside the Artist’s Studio: An Evening with Gregory Crewdson Why: Part of the Gusto at the Gallery series, this free evening begins from 5 to 7 p. m. with an art activity for all ages in the education classroom at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery What else: Curator Heather Pisanti will lead the conversation with Crewdson, an American artist who uses large-scale sets and film crews for his haunting and evocative photographs, as he discusses his artistic process and shares his personal favorites. Info: Admission is free; parking costs $3 in the lot at the gallery, 1285 Elmwood Ave.

Toe and his woes
What: “Shorts” Why: Take the whole family to this PG-rated film about Toe Thompson, who lives in Black Falls, and what happens to him, his friends and their town when a rainbow stone that grants wishes falls from the sky. What else: Tickets are $2 to this action-adventure tale, which includes such characters as Nose Noseworthy and Helvetica Black and stars Jon Cryer, William H. Macy and James Spader.
