The Wales Town Board on Tuesday adopted a $1.35 million budget for 2010 — a document virtually unchanged since first proposed in September.
The spending plan is an increase of $39,943 from this year’s budget and, because of belt tightening and a freeze on most raises, reflects a decrease in the general fund of 5.06 percent and in the highway fund of 6.17 percent.
The general fund will require a tax levy of $28,626 and carries a tax rate of 27.6 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation — 1.5 cents less than this year.
The highway fund budget requires a $125,736 tax levy and reflects a tax rate of $1.21 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, down 8 cents.
The only elected employees in line for raises are the town clerk and highway superintendent — each getting 2 percent raises to coincide with increased responsibilities.
Supervisor Rickey Venditti said the budget reflects appropriations for higher retirement and health-care costs.
The entire budget carries a tax levy of $523,430, with an estimated tax rate of $3.44 per $1,000 for most residents.
In other matters, the board:
• Approved Venditti’s plans to attend the Association of Towns meeting in New York City in February.
• Will discuss a proposal from the Town of Aurora to share the services of an animal control officer during its next work session.
