Western New York is getting its third E85 fuel pump, this one at a Wilson Farms on Transit Road in Lockport.
The fuel blend, made of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, can be used in “Flex Fuel” cars, such as 2009’s Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota Tundra. It is purported to be a more environmentally friendly alternative to regular gasoline, using renewable plant resources that can be grown in the United States.
The area’s first E85 fueling location opened at a Wilson Farms store in North Tonawanda last year. Both Wilson Farms pumps were opened in conjunction with Reid Petroleum Corp.
There are 25 pump stations open to the public in New York State, including one at Excell Fuels in Lackawanna. Another 13 are used privately by the government, including one planned for the State Thruway Authority on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga.
