Coming attractions

• It's championship weekend in Section VI football as five winners will be crowned. On Friday, Maple Grove plays Randolph at 6 p.m. followed by the Sweet Home versus Grand Island game at 8:30 p.m. On Satuday, Alden plays Cheektowaga at noon, Southwestern and Eden kick off at 3 p.m. and North Tonawanda faces Lancaster at 6 p.m.

The Monsignor Martin Association semifinals on Saturday feature St. Francis at St. Joe's and Timon-St. Jude at Canisius in League AA. In League A, Nichols will be at Cardinal O'Hara and Niagara Catholic will visit St. Mary's.

The Intense Milk Game of the Week is between two teams hopeful of advancing to the Harvard Cup playoffs as Grover Cleveland meets Bennett at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The game can be heard on WJJL (1440 AM) and at nhsbn.com or wjjl.com.

• The Section VI boys soccer tournament has reached it final four with the semifinals in classes A, B and C on Tuesday and AA on Wednesday. Class A top seed Williamsville South plays upset-minded No. 12 seed Lew-Port today at 5 p.m. at Hamburg. South beat the Lancers earlier this season, 3-0. "That was a long time ago," said South coach Peter Sugg. "They made it this far, obviously they're good. Every game at this point is going to be tough."

• Section VI will crown its girls volleyball champions this week. City Honors is only No. 1 seed to reach the finals. There are two finals on Wednesday at Daemen College: Eden and Newfane in Class B and City Honors and Falconer in Class C. On Thursday at Daemen: North Tonawanda and Orchard Park in Class AA and Hamburg and Grand Island in Class A. At Jamestown Community College on Thursday, Cattaraugus/Little Valley plays Panama for the Class D title. ... The Monsignor Martin Association final and consolation matches are Friday at Holy Angels.

• The Section VI Cross Country Championships are Friday at Elma Meadows Golf Course with the first of 10 races starting at 10:30 a.m. ... The Monsignor Martin Association Championships are Sunday at Elma Meadows with the first of four races starting at 9:30 a.m.

• The Section VI boys volleyball tournament begins this week with 13 prequarterfinal matches tonight at the higher seed. The quarterfinals are Thursday at the higher seed and the semifinals are Saturday at Orchard Park. ... The Monsignor Martin Association boys semifinals are Thursday at the top seed.

• The New York State Girls Tennis Championships will begin their three-day run on Saturday at the Eastside Racquet Club in Manlius. Section VI champion Miranda Podlas of Williamsville East will represent the section in first singles.

• The Section VI girls soccer tournament is down to its final four with the semifinals in Classes AA and A today and Class B-C on Wednesday. ... The Monsignor Martin Association plays its semifinals on Wednesday at Nichols.

• CONNOLLY CUP: The Riverside Athletic Club Connolly Cup Committee's honor roll for Week Nine: Corey Bell (Forestville), Travis Eman (Canisius), Malik Fuentes (Olean), Mike Gelz (Clarence), Nick Hall (St. Joe's), Matt Hettenbaugh (Randolph), Justin Juda (Lancaster), Matt Kozlowski (Depew), Andy LaLonde (Grand Island) and Tyler Robinson (Starpoint). • COACH OF THE WEEK: Eric Jantzi of North Tonawanda has been named the NFL/Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week for Week Nine. The Jacks eliminated defending state champion Orchard Park from the Class AA playoffs on Friday.

• TRENCH TROPHY: The Trench Trophy Committee has decided to make its final season nominations next week. The 10 finalists will be announced prior to the Dec. 9 banquet. Anyone interested in attending the banquet, purchasing a table, or placing an advertisement or patron in the event program, please contact the Lancaster Elks Lodge at 685-1478 or Carl Kuras at 698-1893.
