The News' football writers assign grades for different aspects of the game.
Grading the Bills
Running game
Lynch ran well early and Owens scored on reverse. But gained just 15 yards after halftime. Jackson continues to regress, averaged just 3.1 a pop. Grade: C-.
Passing game
Brutal. Fitzpatrick had just 63 yards passing and two first downs until garbage time in the last 3:34. Evans had one catch for 5 yards in the first 58 minutes. Grade: F.
Run defense
Admittedly, the bar is low. Gave up the usual 186 yards, but kept team in game for three quarters. Spent too much time on field, and it showed in second half. Grade: C.
Pass defense
Byrd had two more interceptions. Kept Schaub in check for much of the day. But pass rush suffered with Schobel out and Texans had efficient second half. Grade: B.
Special teams
Fake punt was an act of desperation, and Texans were not fooled. Jackson had 71-yard kickoff return. Roscoe, we hardly knew ye. Grade: C+.
Coaching
A signature Jauron loss. Offense sputtered, causing defense to spend too much time on the field. Despite winning turnover battle, got blown out. Grade: F.
Grading the Texans
Running game
Moats was a revelation, running for career-high 126 yards. Obscure running backs tend to flourish against Bills. Remember Jerome Harrison? Willie Parker? Grade: A-.
Passing game
Schaub didn't let early picks and loss of Daniels unnerve him. Kept throwing and found seams in Bills' defense. Completed passes to 10 players. Grade: B.
Run defense
Got fooled on Owens reverse for TD, but otherwise held Bills in check. Gave up just 15 yards on seven carries after halftime. Grade: B+.
Pass defense
Got pressure on Fitzpatrick, took Evans out of game, didn't allow anything deep. Don't we type this same paragraph every week? Grade: B+.
Special teams
Held their ground on fake punt. Jones broke 52-yard punt return. Coverage broke down on Jackson's 71-yard kickoff return. Grade: A-.
Coaching
Kubiak has an offensive vision and players to execute it. Jauron can only dream of such things. Texans showed great resolve after slow start. Grade: A.
