Wilson Farms is shuttering one of its Amherst locations because of underperformance, the company announced Thursday.
The store at 1820 Maple Road near Ayer Road will close for good at 11 p. m. Saturday. Its roughly 15 employees will be offered positions at other locations in the area. Four of the company’s 189 stores are within three miles of the Maple Road site.
Paul Nanula, president and chief executive officer of Wilson Farms, attributed the closing of the 17-year-old store to the “natural process” of evaluating “the long-term viability of all locations” and said no further closings are planned.
The company, which runs Wilson Farms Xpress, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Neighborhood Food Stores, plans to expand its number of locations and invest up to $20 million in improvements over the next three to five years.
