Monday’s games
N. Y. Rangers 5, Phoenix 2: The Rangers netted two goals on five shots in the first period.
Montreal 3, N. Y. Islanders 2 (OT): Ex-Sabre Jaroslav Spacek of the Canadiens scored his first goals of the season, and Roman Hamrlik won it in overtime.
Chicago 3, Minnesota 1: South Buffalo’s Patrick Kane scored a spectacular third-period goal just 3:25 after Minnesota had made it a one-goal game.
Toronto 6, Anaheim 3: The Maple Leafs’ scored five times on the power play as the sloppy Ducks took 17 penalties. Tomas Kaberle scored a career-high five points and Lee Stempniak added a career-best four for the Leafs.
Sunday’s late games
Los Angeles 6, Columbus 2: Anze Kopitar and Alexander Frolov each scored twice and Jarret Stoll had a goal and an assist to lead the Kings.
Vancouver 2, Edmonton 0: Roberto Luongo made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season.
Around the rinks
Phoenix Coyotes: Owner Jerry Moyes has agreed to sell the bankrupt franchise to the NHL. The agreement, which still must be approved by Judge Redfield T. Baum, was announced in U. S. Bankruptcy Court on Monday. Former coach Wayne Gretzky, who has a $22.5 million claim in the case, has not agreed to the deal.
Atlanta Thrashers: Forward Ilya Kovalchuk has a broken bone in his right foot and will be sidelined for four weeks. The injury occurred when he was struck by a puck on Saturday.
