Community activist Samuel Herbert dropped out of the race for Buffalo mayor Tuesday and threw his support behind incumbent Byron W. Brown.
“I’m going to support Mayor Brown in the hopes that he’ll start listening to the African-American community,” said Herbert, who has been critical of Brown’s inner-city record.
Herbert also announced his intention to run in two years for the Fillmore District seat on the Common Council.
Herbert dropped out of the mayor’s race after falling well short of the 2,000 petition signatures needed to qualify for the Sept. 15 primary ballot.
