Two-way automobile traffic returned to the 700 block of Main Street on Monday, the first step in reopening all of Main Street to motorists.
The opening came a day after local officials held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at Main and Tupper streets, the southern end of the block.
Mayor Byron W. Brown hailed the reopening of Main—the downtown section is currently a pedestrian mall—as an important link between downtown and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. The reopening of the 700 block is part of a $40 million effort to return automobile traffic to all of Main Street.
