GREENSBORO, N. C.—University at Buffalo pole vaulter Tiffany Maskulinski (Iroquois) earned a trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., June 9-13 with her third-place finish Friday in the NCAA East Regional hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
Maskulinski cleared a season-best 13 feet, 1b inches to become one of five individuals to automatically advance to the NCAA Nationals.
She was one of five vaulters to clear that height but Natalie Moser of Florida was awarded first place and Nicole Kazuba of William&Mary second place on the basis of fewer misses. Joanna Wright of Georgia Tech and Liza Todd of South Carolina also cleared the winning height.
By finishing third, Maskulinski also earned All-East honors for the second time. She was seventh in last year’s meet.
Maskulinski is the second UB women’s pole vaulter to make the national finals. Laura Olson reached the 2004 indoor and 2005 outdoor championships during her career.
On Saturday, UB freshman Kristy Woods just missed earning a berth in the nationals. Woods finished sixth in the women’s shot put with a personal best 50-1b on her second throw.
Matt Gac of the Bulls was 18th in the hammer throw with a toss of 179-6. Tina Villa was 22nd in the shot put (45-10z) and senior Fatimah Hill was 14th in the triple jump (40-11).
