Bills give Stroud a two-year extension

Marcus Stroud's first season with the Buffalo Bills proved to be very lucrative for the veteran defensive tackle.
The Bills signed the three-time Pro Bowler to a two-year extension that will keep him under contract with the team through 2012, according to an NFL source.
The 30-year-old Stroud was scheduled to make $5.5 million this year and $6 million in 2010. He'll now receive up to $28 million over the next four years, with $12 million guaranteed. Stroud will earn $16 million in the next two seasons, the source said.
The Bills acquired Stroud in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year in exchange for a third- and fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft.
He was the Jaguars' first-round draft pick in 2001 and was a dominant force as the anchor of their defensive line, earning three straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2003-05.
But the Jaguars thought Stroud was in decline after injuries limited him to 20 games over the next two years.
Motivated to prove he could still play, Stroud responded with a solid first season in Buffalo. He added more stoutness to a Bills defense that ranked 14th in yards allowed in the NFL, a vast improvement over the defense's No.‚31 ranking the previous season.
Named a Pro Bowl alternate last season, Stroud started all 16 games and finished fourth on the Bills with 85 tackles while registering 2.5 sacks, seven pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
