“Take Control of Kidney Disease Through Knowledge,” a chronic kidney disease management class for those in the early stages of kidney disease, will be held at 5 p. m. Wednesday in the National Kidney Foundation offices, 300 Delaware Ave., Suite 101. Taught by a registered dietitian, the class covers kidney function, conditions that accompany chronic kidney disease, slowing the progression of the disease, maintaining a healthy attitude, and nutrition and diet guidelines. The National Kidney Foundation of WNY is offering free “Kidney Early Evaluation Program” screenings from 9 a. m. to 4 p. m. Saturday at the McCoy Convention Center, 653 Clinton St. The program is for those who have a parent, grandparent or sibling who has diabetes, high blood pressure or kidney disease. Screenings include blood pressure and weight measurements, plus blood and urine tests. For an appointment or information, call 835-1323.

A free prostate cancer screening for men over age 40 will be hosted by the Buffalo Branch NAACP from 9 a. m. to 2 p. m. Saturday at Rev. Dr. Bennett W. Smith Jr. Family Life Center, 833 Michigan Ave., behind St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St. The blood test measures the level of prostate-specific antigens found in the blood. Early detection is important, and statistics show that African-American men are more at risk to develop prostate cancer than other men. For information, call 884-7242.

The National Kidney Foundation of WNY will present “Live Kidney-Friendly” from 1 to 4 p. m. Sunday at D’Youville College, Koessler Administration Building, 320 Porter Ave. It is designed for kidney disease patients and those at risk for the disease including those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of these conditions. There will be live cooking demonstrations, “Patient Empowerment” session, and CKD Jeopardy. Cost is $5 and includes parking and refreshments. To register, call 835-1323.
