World Unity Day
Various Christian groups in the area will host events Friday to commemorate World Community Day.
Church Women United of the Tonawandas will celebrate at 1 p. m. in St. Mark Episcopal Church, 61 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. Theme is “Piecing Earth Together,” and the event will include a talk by Gladys Gifford, stewardship of creation and peacemaking educator in the Presbytery of Western New York.
Church Women United of Niagara Falls and Vicinity will sponsor a 1 p. m. event in First Baptist Church at Main and Fourth streets, Niagara Falls.
And Church Women United of Buffalo will host a celebration at 10 a. m. in Evangelical Covenant Church, 786 Kenmore Ave.
Area man ordained
The Rev. Cory Mayer, a former resident of Varysburg, was ordained to the Catholic priesthood Oct. 24 in Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, Fla., by Bishop Frank J. Dewane.
Mayer, a graduate of Pontifical North America College in Rome, is now a priest of the Diocese of Venice.
Health care forum
“Is Health Care a Human Right?” will be the subject of a panel discussion sponsored by the Religion and Human Rights Project and scheduled for 7 p. m. Nov. 9 in the Regis Room South of the Canisius College Student Center.
Panelists are: John Kelly, philosophy professor at Canisius College, Dr. Mark Lema, anesthesiologist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and Dr. Sayad Husain, professor of nuclear medicine at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Buffalo.
Interfaith conference
The Buffalo Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will hold its 13th interfaith conference from 2 to 5 p. m. Nov. 15 at the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.
The topic will be misconceptions and myths about various faiths.
Speakers are Dr. Dilip Sinha representing Hinduism; Rabbi Perry Netter representing Judaism; Sister Katherine Marie Bogner representing Catholicism; Stephen J. Free representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Imam Yahya Luqman representing Islam.

Walls Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church, 455 Glenwood Ave., will host a fall revival at 7 p. m. daily Nov. 11 to 13 with guest preacher, the Rev. Henrico White of Caldwell A. M. E. Zion Church in New York City.
