Houndstooth, tweeds and paisleys are popular patterns for the home come fall, but here is something to watch for: typography.

“Sentences, jumbled words, letters, numbers and symbols in classic fonts are being used to create edgy graphics and patterns for furnishings and accessories. Typography is becoming a new form of personalization, the modern way to monogram,” the Washington Post reports.

Look for it on pillows, shower curtains, wallpaper and more.

What’s cooking?

The popular Tour of Kitchens hosted by the Elmwood Village Association returns Sept. 28. The fourth annual tour, which runs from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m., includes both high-end designer kitchens and eclectic owner-created kitchens, in addition to kitchens of historic mansions, restored Victorians and 20th-century homes located across Elmwood Village.

“Green Design” kitchens and homes that utilize environment-friendly or energy-efficient designs will be of special interest this year.

Tickets are limited to 1,200. Advance tickets are available for $18 at Talking Leaves, Cosi Fini (East Aurora), Wegmans, Annie Adams, Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers’ Market and at elmwoodvillage.org.

Tickets are $21 the day of the event. The starting point for tickets and program books is Buffalo Seminary, 205 Bidwell Parkway. All proceeds will support programs of the Elmwood Village Association.

Tantalizing tabletops

The Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County will present “Perfect Settings” from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Sept. 27 and 28 at the George Urban Mansion, 280 Pine Ridge Road.

The fundraiser matches designer volunteers with arts and cultural organizations to create a tabletop work of art. And the public is invited to see what they came up with.

Net proceeds will be divided equally among the organizations with tables exhibited in the event. Tickets in advance are $11 and can be purchased through Wegmans and by calling the Arts Council, 856- 7520. Tickets are $13 at the door. For information, visit artsbuffalo.org.

And finally …

“When the whole world is your living room, a tiny house seems plenty.” Jay Shafer, Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, in MaryJane Butters’ book, “MaryJane’s Outpost: Unleashing Your Inner Wild” (Potter, $30).
