Yes to pellet-burning stove

About that plastic in food
It’s invisible, tasteless and odorless, and yet it is found in many of the foods and beverages that we consume. It is BPA, short for bisphenol A. (Updated: 11/19/09 7:08 AM )
Yule spectacle like no other
“George, a camel, stepped on the foot of a Rockette; six sheep came off the elevator as three kings bearing gifts got on. ... Human Christmas trees bumped into eight maids-a-milking at the water cooler and an elf came down with the flu!” (Updated: 11/18/09 7:29 AM )
Can onions cure the flu?

Carolyn Hax: Meddling mother gets a laugh
Dear Carolyn: My boyfriend’s mom sent him a book about tips for a successful marriage. Our first reaction was to have a good laugh about it; we’re not ready for marriage yet, and neither of us has talked with our parents about it. (Updated: 11/18/09 8:12 AM )

People’s Pharmacy: Is lead in hair dye safe?

John Rosemond: Teens should not be driving
My oldest grandson, not yet 15, is already taking driver’s education. In fact, he’s already been behind the wheel with his instructor, on an interstate highway no less. I’m resigned to his obtaining his license in a little more than a year. I’m not happy about it. I’m resigned. Mind you, he’s more trustworthy and responsible (in my objective opinion) than 9.9 out of 10 of his peers. He’s a good if not great kid, and as my readers know, my standards are high. Still, I’m shaking my head in incredulous resignation. (Updated: 11/16/09 7:45 AM )

Reinventing a winery
Like an aging wine, wineries often go through dumb stages when nothing seems to be happening. Sometimes the producer couldn’t hold a quick rise to fame or didn’t have the capital funds to modernize his facility. Most of the time, though, the wines may not have lived up to their reputation. That has happened to Beaulieu Vineyards and Silver Oak, to name just two. (Updated: 11/15/09 8:07 AM )
Sticking with family’s faith
Q: Years ago, I attended an interfaith dinner hosted by the church I belonged to at the time. One of my dinner partners, whom I knew well, was of the Jewish faith. Many questions came up concerning each of our religions. During our conversation, I said: “Aren’t we all pretty much of the faith with which we were raised?” (Updated: 11/14/09 8:07 AM )
