Jockey’s suspension trimmed

Story tools:

The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission has cut in half a jockey’s suspension for whipping his horse in the face. Jeremy Rose, who won the 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes aboard Afleet Alex, was initially suspended for six months after he struck Appeal to the City in the face June 23 as she ran a race, eventually finishing third. Rose maintains he accidentally hit the horse in the face and the eye.

At Fort Erie Race Track, jockey Rui Pimentel rode three winners and finished third three times. He moved into third place in the rider standings, with 25 winners, aboard Gold Quill ($9.60), Break Even ($7.40) and High Thoughts Slew ($3.80).
